Every once in a while a solo developer drops a Steam page with such a clean, completely original elevator pitch that you wonder why nobody has done it before, and YuWave’s Demon Lord: Just a Block (one developer, one computer, one year, by their own admission) is exactly that kind of curio. The hook is delicious: it is a tactical action roguelite where the world only moves when you do, the entire game is built out of voxel-style blocks, environments, enemies, NPCs, and chests included, and combat happens by colliding with what you want to hit. Plan a perfect chain of dodges, parries, and counterattacks like a Hoplite-style grandmaster, or rip through a room in a flurry that feels indistinguishable from real-time action; the choice is yours, all driven by four directional keys. You play a freshly beheaded Demon Lord on a revenge tour against Dragon Queen Heyla, drawing from 14 weapons, 200-plus abilities across schools like Bombs, Lightning, Bats, and Summoning, 18 room types, and 70-plus enemies and bosses, with the bosses themselves designed around the rules of Snake, Tetris, 2048, and Minesweeper because YuWave clearly has zero interest in making a boring game. Demo already racking up near-perfect reviews, full release April 29, 2026: this is the kind of one-person miracle the indie shelf was invented to make room for.
