Chained Beasts: Hades Meets Overcooked Meets Gladiator, in the Best Way (Demo Gameplay)

Hello friends. This is a Let’s Play video of “Chained Beasts” demo version. Chained Beasts is a 1-4 player co-op gladiator roguelike. Fight chaotic battles chained to your friends. Use your chains or the arena to beat up foes in creative ways and win over the bloodthirsty crowd. Endure physical and mental injuries to defeat fearsome bosses and survive the day.

There is a particular kind of co-op chaos that happens when a game forces four players to physically rely on each other to do anything, and Chained Beasts from Australian studio Featherweight Games is engineering that chaos with quiet precision. The pitch is glorious: a one-to-four-player gladiator roguelike set in a sun-baked Roman colosseum, where you and up to three friends are literally chained together and expected to slaughter your way to freedom while not garrotting yourselves on the nearest pillar. Combat leans hard into environmental slapstick, hurl an urn at a foe, hurl a foe at an urn, charge a charging enemy into a spike wall, fling a sword across the arena and pray you have another within reach, and synchronising your chain physics with your party turns positioning into the most expressive system in the genre right now. Between bouts, persistent wounds stack up in delightfully cruel Darkest Dungeon flavour (limps, missing eyes, hallucinations only you can see), pain potions help but come with side effects, and Rome itself glares down from the upper tiers waiting to be impressed. With local and online four-player co-op, Remote Play Together, a free demo currently in Steam Next Fest, and what looks like a healthy stack of festival awards already in the trophy case, this is the kind of co-op chaos engine that turns Discord calls into actual stand-up comedy.
