Slayblade: The Battle-Tops Roguelite That’ll Eat Your Weekend (Demo Gameplay)

Hello friends. This is a Let’s Play video of “Slayblade” demo version. Build your battle-top and become King of the Streets! Collect 60+ parts, Merge their Powers, and Dominate opponents in this Chill Roguelite! Skate around a vibrant Y2K city, winning Cash and Upgrades on your way to the top. And if you Die in the game, you Die in real life.

Anyone who has spent twenty minutes watching their child obsess over a spinning plastic top in a stadium will instinctively understand what Oscar Brittain (Desert Child, Kardboard Kings, Nanomon Virtual Pet) is up to with Slayblade, his next slice of beautifully lo-fi indie. Pitched as a chill battle-tops roguelite with a Y2K palette, this is a pure “build, battle, buy upgrades, repeat” loop in which you collect 60-plus parts, merge their powers into wonderfully unhinged combos, and skate around a miniature PS1-flavoured city betting your lunch money on alleyway spin-offs against rival kids. The controls are mouse-only and snappy, the visuals are colourful hand-drawn lo-fi heaven, and the soundtrack does what every Brittain game’s soundtrack does, which is immediately move into your head for a fortnight. There is no big story mode, no multiplayer, no padding, just a tightly designed run-based loop with a generous unlockables tree, an unmistakable Beyblade-meets-Tony-Hawk-meets-Sword-Art-Online energy, and the cheekiest self-aware Steam page in months (anyone who has read down to the Crumpet bit knows what I mean). For an auteur whose work has always nailed the intersection of cool and cosy, Slayblade looks set to extend that streak comfortably.
