HYPERWIRED: The Twin-Stick Shooter With a Literal Plug Mechanic (Gameplay)

Hello friends. This is a Let’s Play video of “HYPERWIRED”. Hyperwired is a classic top-down action shooter, where your spaceship has a plug hanging from it. Wire yourself into sockets, gather upgrades, and unlock ships as you explore a procedurally generated galaxy with roguelike elements.

Somewhere between the clean twin-stick pop of Geometry Wars and the roguelike drop-and-run of Nuclear Throne lives HYPERWIRED, a Spanish top-down space shooter from SIDRALGAMES (published by SelectaPlay) that hangs its entire hook on a delightfully brave design constraint: your ship has a plug on the end of a cable. Space is dark, sockets are scattered, and to power the level, charge your systems, and travel forward you have to physically plug in, which then tethers your movement to the length of that cable while enemies close in from every angle. The rest of the loop is comfortingly familiar: 10-plus ships with different gameplay flavours, procedurally generated galaxies, a mega-laser for when the plan goes sideways, an army of rescued stranded ships you can recruit as wingmen, a slow-mo system that recharges off dead enemies, 250-plus bullet-modifier combinations via Battery pickups, and 40-plus permanent ship upgrades. Boss encounters cap every galaxy, permadeath keeps the tension honest, and the whole thing wears the kind of clean pixel-art coat that lets you actually read a bullet pattern under duress. Add the tether mechanic, and you have one of the more inventive-looking twin-stick roguelikes in a genre that badly needed a new idea. Wishlist it and keep the cable clear.
