January 2022 in retrospect

January was crazy – Family and work matters managed to grab most of our time this month, with minimum spare time to play games we’d like. We managed to push just 3 reviews this month, but, oh boy, we did enjoy them!

So, in January 2022:

Reviews

Ziggurat 2, a procedural first-person rogue-lite shooter with fast-paced combat set in a fantasy world was reviewed first this month. Developed and published by Milkstone Studios and sequel to the addictive and highly regarded original Ziggurat this new addition to the series offers more action, more spells, more enemies, and (if you’re not careful) more deaths!

Coming up was Beacon, a top-down sci-fi action rogue-like where death is not the ending but another chance to find your Beacon. Released on Dec 2021 by Monothetic LLC after 7 years of development, this is already well-received and highly regarded. Did not actually get much playtime after the review, but we keep this engaging rogue-like to revisit soon!

Later into the month, Hardspace: Shipbreaker was reviewed. A physics puzzle game set in a dystopian future where you need to cut through ships to pay off your debts! Coming from developers Blackbird Interactive and published by Focus Home Interactive. Looking forward to its complete release soon as announced by the developer, so we can (re)start its career and dive deeper into its story!

Unfortunately, we were not able to review Gunborg this month as promised as its release got delayed, and Deflector was released too close to the end of the month to ensure a thorough review on time. Hopefully, both will get reviewed soon!

Other games played this month

We went back to finishing up any remaining quests in Horizon: Zero Dawn just before its sequel is released later this month and wrapping up another month in Forza Horizon 5 seasonal content. We were also caught up by various other indie games such as Windjammers 2 and Nobody Saves the World released on GamePass!

Gaming goals for February…

There’s a busy month coming up, both in work, family, and games. Elden Ring, Grid Legends, Destiny 2: The Witch King, and Horizon Forbidden West (a Playstation exclusive) launches this month along with indies Sifu and Olli Olli World. Hopefully, we’ll get to enjoy some of these (if not all) if time permits!

So on to February, we wish all of you a great month!

What are you looking forward in it?
